Your Chicago Curated Weekend: 11/24 – 11/27

I'm sure plenty of regular readers will be spending the weekend in a food-induced laze, basking in the Thanksgiving meal they enjoyed. Some of you will join the masses flocking to stores to get "deals"  or maybe you left town to join friends and family elsewhere. Honestly, I think it's just meant to be a laid-back weekend without having to worry on what to do and where to go. But if you still need a little help in deciding exactly how to spend the next few days, your (shortened) curated weekend is here! THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 24th It's Thanksgiving, relax and take the day off. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24th CFM @ The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., 9:00PM WHAT: More psychedelic noise rock than you'll know what to do with SO WHAT: Charles Francis Moothart has played with the numerous Ty Segall projects, but CFM is Moothart in his solo project. The band is as intense as you would imagine, doling out massive guitar fuzz and hard rocking tunes that will satisfy your need for a good time. CFM will be joined by Glyders and Hydrofoil. NOW WHAT: Tickets for this heavy show are $10 FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24th - 25th Akira @ Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave., 11:59PM WHAT: A trip to Neo Tokyo SO WHAT: Akira is widely considered one of the best animated films to come out of Japan and it's for a good reason. The post apocalyptic cyberpunk film has an timeless quality. Although it was released in 1988, Akira somehow feels like it was made yesterday, looking and sounding as crisp as modern traditionally animated films. Akira is not for kids and this midnight showing will be the perfect way to discover or rewatch this monumental film for the hundredth time. NOW WHAT: Tickets for these midnight showings are $9. Get ready and and warm up your voice to let out your best "Tetsuo!" and  "Kaneda!" SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26th Chillfest @ Wicker Park/Bucktown, 2:00PM - 6:00PM WHAT: A late in the year music festival SO WHAT: Chillfest is an acoustic music festival in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhoods where 60+ musicians play in storefronts throughout the area. Check out the schedule for more information. NOW WHAT: This is an interesting way to explore the area and is completely free. Jim James @ The Vic, 3145 N Sheffield Ave., 7:00PM WHAT: Holiday concert for your Thanksgiving weekend SO WHAT: Jim James has spent  the majority of his career as the lead singer and songwriter of My Morning Jacket. Throughout the band's six studio albums, James has maintained his quality soulful songwriting. James has also been quite prolific outside of the band releasing multiple solo albums and working with the Decemberists, the Roots, America, Booker T. Jones, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and recorded and toured with the Monsters of Folk. James will be joined by Twin Limb and their fantastic psychedelic folk. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $35 for this holiday concert. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new or like-new toy or book for the children in Chicagoland hospitals during the holiday season.
