After a few days of uncertainty, we finally know the fate of this locally based courtroom drama. Deadline is reporting that NBC has decided not to renew “Chicago Justice” for a second season, making it the only thing within Dick Wolf’s stable of Chicago centric TV shows to not last more than a year.
Earlier we talked about how “Chicago Justice” was going through negotiations as NBC was debating whether to renew it or not. We kinda understand their plight, to be honest. The show has a passionate cult following, but never got great ratings. Still, “Chicago Justice” did better viewership then “Taken,” which is based on the Liam Neeson action movies of the same name, and “Shades of Blue,” the Jennifer Lopez cop drama. Both of those shows were renewed for this fall.
Ultimately, NBC probably just made a financial decision and decided that three Chicago shows was enough. “Chicago Fire,” the franchise flagship, is the second most watched drama on their network and “Chicago Justice” didn’t seem to add anything substantial to the roster. “We decided that we didn’t need it as there was no space for fall,” an NBC executive recently commented about the situation.
The rest of Dick Wolf’s Chicago shows, "Chicago P.D.," "Chicago Med," and "Chicago Fire," will all return this fall and continue to be filmed at Cinespace Film Studios in Lawndale as well as various locations around the city.
