Summer is here and along with it, a bunch of free screenings of your favorite movies at parks throughout the city. For those who don’t know, the Chicago Park District curates a free summer series of over 100 film screenings at parks all around Chicago. This year’s festival started with a set of weekly events on June 2 where Mel Brooks’ classic, Young Frankenstein, was shown at Berger Park up in Edgewater. The weekly screenings conclude, June 9, down in Englewood at Sherwood Park with a screening of the Common fronted Barbershop: The Next Cut at 8:30pm. On June 12, the screenings switch to an almost daily schedule and the lineup for those is remarkable. Some of the highlights include the following: And those films don't even get into the stellar lineup of free Millennium Park film screenings, which includes La La Land or the Music Box's new free movie series at Wrigley Field's new outdoor plaza, which includes Ferris Bueller's Day Off. All of the Movies in the Park screenings are free and get going around dusk with start times that range between 8 and 8:30pm depending on which movie you’re attending. Further information about start times and the full schedule can be found at the Park District’s website.
