This is a big week for music fans as Pitchfork Music Festival is just a few days away! To prep for the occasion, this Fresh Start is dedicated to some musical events that will sure get you going despite the dreary weather. There a lots of musical styles at play, so there should be something for everyone's personal tastes. There are also plenty of events on the calendar for to to look through and add even more suggests to your daily schedule.

MONDAY, JULY 10th
Millennium Park Summer Music Series: Natalie Prass / Angelica Garcia @ Millennium Park. 201 E Randolph St., 6:30PM
WHAT: Another year of the fantastic Millennium Park Summer Music Series
SO WHAT: This is the second year of the re-imagining of Downtown Sound and Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz series. Merging them together has created a very eclectic set of musical experiences. This year’s exciting lineup continues to take cues from both internationally known performers to local artists that are more than worthy of such an impressive spotlight. This evening, Millennium Park will be filled with a pair of beautiful voices that will stay with you thanks to Natalie Prass and Angelica Garcia.

ACLU Benefit with Post Animal/The Evening Attraction/Jude Shuma/Condor & Jaybird @ Subterranean, 2011 W North Ave., 8:00PM
WHAT: ANCHR Magazine & KickstandProductions team up for a benefit show!
SO WHAT: Spend an evening with some of the best musicans in chiago as they gther together to help raise funds for ACLU! The night will feature live performances by Post Animal, The Evening Attraction, Jude Shuma, and Condor & Jaybird. Lucille Furs will be DJing throughout the evening while Between Friends & #OurMusicMyBody will be tabling at this show!
NOW WHAT: Tickets are one $12 for this great lineup for a fantastic cause! All profits will be donated to ACLU Nationwide. The show is 17+
CHIRP Summer Fundraiser @ Rojo Gusano, 3830 W Lawrence Ave., 6:30PM - 9:30PM
WHAT: Join CHIRP for a cool summertime fundraising event at the original Rojo Gusano !
SO WHAT: Enjoy great margaritas, tacos, and other Mexican street food, including plenty of vegetarian options as you help support CHIRP! Singer-songwriter and CHIRP DJ Ayme Frye (aka SuperFrye) will perform live and will be joined by some special guests. There will be raffles for great prizes including a pair of three-day passes to Pitchfork Music Festival!
NOW WHAT: This event is appropriate for all ages! A portion of the proceeds from all food and drink sales benefits CHIRP Radio.
TUESDAY, JULY 11th
Grandkids / Sama Dams / Crown Larks / Hobbyist @ Emporium Arcade Bar Wicker Park, 1366 N Milwaukee Ave., 8:00PM
WHAT: Fresh music in the glow of pinball machine lights
SO WHAT: Stop by the Wicker Park Emporium for an evening filled with some great tunes from three Chicago based bands and one visiting from Portland, OR! The night will be filled with unique sounds for the likes of Grandkids and their fol rock infusion that is a delight to experience, the pristine avant pop of Sama Dams, Crown Larks‘ post punk nuance, and the experimental creativeness of Hobbyist!

SO WHAT: Treehouse Records are back at their monthly residency at Corridor Brewery. They will be bringing special guest DJs to play an amazing mix of artists that have influenced the studio and even throw in some tracks that Treehouse has recorded.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 12th
CHIRP Radio's First Time: First Catch @ Martyrs', 3855 N Lincoln Ave., 8:00PM -11:00PM
WHAT: Stories and music coming together
SO WHAT: CHIRP Radio’s premier storytelling and music series The First Time returns to Martyrs. The First Time is hosted by CHIRP DJ, The Moth champion, and host of Psychotic Break, Jenn Sodini. The series pairs a featured reader’s true story with live song, performed by the series’ house band The First Time Four (Steve Frisbie, Liam Davis, Gerald Dowd and Scott Stevenson). Trading between stories and songs breaks up the event nicely for a fun and intimate event. This month’s theme is “First Catch,” and readers include: Steve Krakow, Natalie Grace Alford, Micki LeSueur, Wes Needham, Daniel Shapiro, and Marites Velasquez. As an added bonus at this show, everyone who attends will have the chance to win a pair of Hamilton tickets!

The 5th Annual Silent Films and Loud Music Series @ Comfort Station, 2579 N Milwaukee Ave., 8:25PM - 10:00PM
WHAT: Comfort Film Presents The 5th Annual Silent Films and Loud Music Series
SO WHAT: Silent films and Loud Music, programed by Raul Benitez and Nando Espinosa Herrera, brings the tradition of live scoring films into a surreal present, pairing unconventional bands with classic silent films. This edition will see ALEXA GRÆ and Miah Luz, two artists who blend interesting vocals with ethereal electronic sounds, scoring The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928).
