I wanted to let you all know about an exciting new quarterly film series that caught my eye.
The recent success of the DOC10 Film Festival has emboldened Chicago Media Project, a local non-profit organization supporting social-impact documentary film. To progress their mission of bringing films about social justice to the people, they’ve announced that they’re now sponsoring a series of screenings at the newly renovated Davis Theater called “Dinner & Docs @ The Davis.” The first of these screenings is this Thursday night.
The concept of this new series is simple; pair a thought provoking documentary with an excellent meal prepared by a world-class chef. In this instance, the chef is Gil Langlois who will be providing an assortment of delicacies that can be found at his restaurant; Carbon Arc. The first film of this series is the Chicago premiere of City of Ghosts, followed by a Q&A (via Skype) with director Matthew Heinemann (Academy Award nominated for Cartel Land). Heinemann will be joined during the Q&A by panelists Kerry Peterson, Senior Advocacy and Communication Officer for the Committee to Protect Journalists; and Lina Sergie Attar, Co-Founder and CEO of the Karam Foundation and Board Member of The Syria Campaign.
The Dinner & Docs @ The Davis film series happens at the Davis Theater (4614 N. Lincoln Ave) Thursday, July 13, at 7:15pm. Tickets to the dinner and movie are $30. Tickets to the movie only are complimentary, however you must register at the paid ticket link. Future screenings have not yet been announced.
