WHAT: Tara McPherson and Cotton Candy Machine are heading off on another Pop Up Shop Tour
SO WHAT: Before heading out to Flatstock at the Pitchfork Music Festival, Tara McPherson and Cotton Candy Machine will be kicking off another road trip pop up tour with a Rotofugi! The tour will include 7 Pop Up Shops in 6 cities and each Pop Up will be full of Tara McPherson’s art, available as limited edition giclee prints, rock posters, screen prints, lithographs, stickers, postcards, pins, buttons, puzzles and more. It’s sure to be a lot of fun and a great chance to meet the artist in person!

WHAT: A reading with one of Chicago’s finest poets
SO WHAT: Join Kevin Coval as he reads from his newest book, “A People’s History of Chicago”. Coval is a poet and community builder. He’s mentored thousands of young writers, artists, and musicians through his various ventures including as the artistic director of Young Chicago Authors, founder of Louder Than A Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival, and professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Coval will be joined by special guests for this great event.

SO WHAT: The second annual Chicago Open Air will bring together a great lineup of hard rock all stars. The three-day fest will include plenty of music, craft beer and Gourmet Man Food festival will feature over 40 performances, including legendary rock artists Ozzy Osbourne, KISS, and Korn, along with Rob Zombie, Slayer, Godsmack, Stone Sour, Megadeth, Lamb Of God, Seether, Meshuggah, Anthrax, Clutch, Body Count, and many more.

SO WHAT: Avantist is Chicago's eclectic, hard-hitting, and infectious band made up of the hilarious Arias family. The brotherly band brings unique sounds that transcend post rock into this manic and fun realm where rocking out is only recourse to the energetic sonic onslaught. Avantist will be joined by equally fun Space Blood, The Cell Phones, and Harold Green who will also be hosting the night!

WHAT: Take a journey through Thailand this summer at the First Thai Food Festival in Chicago hosted by The Thai-American Restaurant Association of Illinois (T.A.R.A.)
SO WHAT: Enjoy authentic Thai food from a number of Thai restaurants around the city. You’ll get a chance to try Thai street food or “Thai comfort food” you’d see in Thailand! There will also be traditional dance performances, Thai boxing (also known as Muay Thai), cooking demonstrations, live music by a local Thai band and ice cold Singha beers will keep you entertained on both days. You may also shop at the gift booths for eclectic products from Thailand and enjoy a Thai massage from a long day of eating.

WHAT: Celebrate Navy Pier’s 101st Birthday
SO WHAT: Navy Pier is celebrating its 101
st Birthday with a star-studded bash and full day of free cultural programming in the new Polk Bros Park Performance Lawns. The celebration will include Native American drumming and dancing by Seven Springs, a procession by Native Veterans and local community youth dancers, a vibrant performance by Larry Yazzie, African drum performance by Oyotunji, followed by an Asian drum and lion dance performance, presented in partnership with the Chinese Fine Arts Society
. There will also be a live music presentation from Lakefront Swing (a centennial celebration of jazz greats Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Lena Horne) which features a lineup of world-class performers, including Chicago-natives Felicia Fields and E. Faye Butler alongside Grammy Award-nominated trumpeter Victor Garcia – all of whom will be directed by international icon Fred Nelson III.

WHAT: A block party for all
SO WHAT: This is an outdoor celebration of music, community, art, love and culture. The Silver Room Block Party rocked Hyde Park last summer with a crowd of over 15,000 and they’re ready to do it again. This will be the 14th year (the second year in Hyde Park) of this arty getting people dancing, singing, and celebrating culture.

SO WHAT: Chicago artists of Tan + Loose Press, who have garnered a cult-following, will be setting up a nice pop up shop in Cafe Integral. They selling their work (ranging from prints, zines, pins and and more)which they describe as “Riso printed ephemera for the tasteless art collector.”

WHAT: Stroll through a variety of private, rear gardens throughout the Near North and Gold Coast neighborhoods during the 59th annual Dearborn Garden Walk
SO WHAT: This is one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious garden walks right in the heart of Chicago’s Near North neighborhood. Stroll through a diverse mix of private gardens throughout the Near North and Gold Coast neighborhoods and be inspired by green spaces that have been transformed into stunning, outdoor entertainment areas. Gardening seminars and sidewalk, architectural tours are also part of the program. Proceeds from the event go back into the neighborhood for preservation and beautification efforts.
