Another summer weekend behind us, another festival done. While I sat out Lollapalooza this year, I'm sure many are still recovering from the unusually cool temps and exercise darting between stages during the four-day fest. MONDAY, AUGUST 7th Double Door x Dark Circles Records Present: Mykele Deville/The Curls @ The Owl, 2521 N Milwaukee Ave., 9:00PM WHAT: Double Door at The Owl! SO WHAT: Since the demise of the Double Door has left a void in shows, The Owl has happily stepped up and will be providing a home to Double Door once a month! This month’s free show will include two local acts provie a diverse range of sounds: poet and rappers Mykele Deville and art pop outfit The Curls. NOW WHAT: There is no cover for this fantastic lineup! Doors open at 6:oopm, show starts at 9:00pm TUESDAY, AUGUST 8th Everyone's Picasso 50th Anniversary Celebration @ Richard J. Daley Center, 50 W Washington St., Noon - 1:00PM WHAT: It’s the anniversary of one of Chicago’s most recognizable landmarks SO WHAT: DCASE will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chicago Picasso at “Everyone’s Picasso” with a restaging of the 1967 unveiling. While the work was originally met with mixed reviews, the Picasso has become a Chicago icon attracting visitors from around the world. For more info on this great restaging festivity, head to their event page! NOW WHAT: Come by and celebrate this wonderful work of art and give it the respect it didn’t get the first time around! Nicole Atkins & Thayer Sarrano @ Evanston SPACE, 1245 Chicago Ave, Evanston, IL, 8:00PM WHAT: Pristine vocals at one of the cooler venues around town. SO WHAT: Nicole Atkins is back with her fourth studio album, Goodnight Rhonda Lee, is a vintage soul album inspired legendary artists like Dusty Springfield, Candi Staton, Roy Orbison and Janis Joplin. Joining her will be multi-instrumentalist Thayer Sarrano. Atkins is always a pleasure to watch perform as she puts all her emotion on stage for an exemplary show! NOW WHAT: Tickets are only $15 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 9th Music Box Theatre Movies @ The Park at Wrigley, 3637 N Clark St., 6:00PM WHAT: Movies at a new summer location! SO WHAT: The Park at Wrigley is hosting a free summer movie series presented by Chicago’s premier venue for independent and classic films, Music Box Theatre. Each screening will take place at sunset but arrive early as there will also be an exciting preshow that may include music and talent shows! This week’s screening is The Sandlot (Dir. David M. Evans, 101mins, 1993)! NOW WHAT: Screenings will take place at sunset and are free, so bring your blankets and lean back to enjoy the movie. Lore @ Thalia Hall, 1807 S Allport St., 8:00PM WHAT: A spine-tingling night of historical tales SO WHAT: Lore is an award-winning and critically acclaimed podcast that exposes the darker side of history.
