After the full weekend with
the Chicago Marathon, it's time to wind down and relax. How about some amazing shows, exciting readings, and an art walk that extends beyond the beginning of the week!

MONDAY, OCTOBER 9th
The Flat Five Fall Freak Out Residency @ The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave., 7:00PM
WHAT: The place you'll want to be every Monday
SO WHAT: The Flat Five are the super group that Chicago needs. Made up of Scott Ligon, Casey McDonough, Kelly Hogan, Nora O'Connor and Alex Hall, the band's debut album It’s a World of Love and Hope is made up entirely of songs by Chicago mainstay Chris Ligon. Their sound is everything you could want from these music masters: sweet and twisted pop songs that will get stuck in your head. Now you can see them mix things up like the good ole days at this multi-month residency where they will be trying a whole mess of beautiful things every Monday night. This evening is
Freaky Monday! where they will switch leads and sing each other’s songs, including their own originals.

Salonathon: The Long Haul @ Beauty Bar, 1444 W. Chicago Ave., 8:30PM
WHAT: A weekly show of experimental work featuring an inclusive creative community throwing a great party!
SO WHAT: The theme of this week's
Salonathon, hosted by
Bindu Poroor, is a chance for you to show upp for yourself and others whil trying not to burn yourself out. So come out, enjoy life, and join the party! Feel the love with this line up of fantastic Chicago artists performing some underground, emerging, and genre-defying art and stick around for a fun community with jams provided by DJ All The Way Kay.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10th
Roz Chast @ Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S State St., 6:00PM
WHAT: New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast will talk about her new graphic guide,
Going Into Town: A Love Letter to New York, to be published October 3.
SO WHAT: Chast, a native Brooklynite turned suburban commuter, was amazed at the nature of the non-city milieu. (You can own trees!? You have to drive!?) Her children, raised in suburbia, had the opposite reaction on their visits to Manhattan. The book is a guide to and thank-you note to Manhattan. The American Writers Museum and Chicago Public Library are presenting the event. Chast is also the author of the award-winning graphic memoir,

WHAT: A band fronted by a half man, half fly.
SO WHAT: The fly man didn't intrigue you? Well, how about the opportunity to be transported into a dimension where boisterous art pop band squeezes all the weirdness out of your body and presents it to you as a blast of music?
Ice Balloons will have that sort of effect on you as they are the loudest, most avant-garde noise makers made up of Kyp Malone from TV on the Radio, Sean Kennerly of Samiam, with members of Wild Yak. Joining them will be the equally freaky

The Sueves. They put on one hell of a show that you won't want to miss!
NOW WHAT: Tickets are $10 for this 21+. Bring earplugs. Seriously. Last time I saw them I didn't bring mine and I had ringing in my ears for a few days. Still, it was worth it.
TUESDAY & BEYOND, OCTOBER 10th -15th
Andersonville Arts Week @ Andersonville
WHAT: A week long celebration of culture in Andersonville
SO WHAT: In its 15th year, the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce has expanded the Andersonville Arts Week to a week-long celebration with over 70 local shops, restaurants, and businesses set to host more than 150 artists. This year’s event will focus on nine specific genres of art: visual, theatre, dance, music, culinary, handmade, kids/family, literary, and public art, with a nice range of activities to properly represent each.
