Old Morton Salt Warehouse on Elston to Be Redeveloped

The old Morton Salt Warehouse at 1329 N. Elston, highly visible from the Kennedy Expressway, will be converted into a multiuse center that will include retail, restaurants, entertainment and offices. Developer R2 Cos. bought the 4.25-acre property after Morton Salt closed it in 2015. R2 will spend $20 million on the redevelopment, which will adapt and reuse many of the existing buildings on the riverside site, which they've named the Salt District. The familiar "umbrella girl" sign will be retained. (Crain's Chicago Business)
