Illinois Politicians Respond To Trump’s Racist ‘Shithole’ Remark
Illinois politicians condemned President Donald Trump and his racist remarks towards Haitians and people from African nations. According to Politico, it was during a meeting on immigration policy with Illinois Senator Dick Durbin where Trump asked why the United States would accept “all these people from shithole countries.” “Clearly he’s a racist. He has ignorance with regard to the history of his country and the contributions Haitians have made to this country,” State Sen. Kwame Raoul, who is running for Illinois Attorney General, told the Sun-Times. Senator Tammy Duckworth tweeted that Trump’s remarks were “disgraceful,” and that his “ability to degrade the office of the Presidency never ceases to shock me.” Rep. Jan Schakowsky called the comments “vile,” saying “just when you thought Donald Trump could not get any more racist, he digs down to an even deeper low,” in a statement. State Sen. Daniel Biss, a candidate for Illinois governor, tweeted “Can't wait to get rid of this sh*thole of a president. #resist.”
