Crate & Barrel BoulMich Closing, Being Remodeled as Starbucks’ Largest “Roastery”

Crate & Barrel's iconic white building at 646 N. Michigan will close January 24 or sooner if the sale merchandise disappears. Architects Solomon Cordwell Buenz, the original architect of the building that opened 27 years ago, is redesigning it to become Starbucks' largest "roastery" facility in 2019. The 43,000 square foot building will feature what Starbucks describes as "a fully sensorial coffee experience." The construction permit is estimated at $9.7 million (Curbed Chicago).
