Recordings Reveal Missing UIUC Student’s Suspected Killer Admitting to Kidnapping

Last June, a Chinese scholar at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign was reported missing, and video surfaced of the student, Yingying Zhang, waiting for a bus on campus, then getting into a car with a man. Her body was never found, but police believe she is dead. Another U. of I. student picked out a photo of suspect Brendt Christensen when asked to identify who approached her in a similar way the same day. Christensen's ex-girlfriend recorded a series of conversations that revealed his motives, and in which he describes his kidnapping of Zhang. The case will go to trial Feb. 27 (Chicago Tribune).
