Tammy Duckworth to be First Senator to Give Birth While In Office

Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth will become the first sitting Senator in the country to give birth, and the 10th overall member of Congress to have a child while in office. Duckworth announced on Tuesday she’s expecting a second child in late April. Her first, Abigail, was born in 2014 when Duckworth was serving in the House. “Thank you for the outpouring of congratulations and support,” the Senator wrote on Twitter. “I’m hardly alone or unique as a working parent, and my daughter Abigail has only made me more committed to doing my job and standing up for hardworking families everywhere.” (Sun-Times)
