Partner to Bring Their Feel-Good Heavy Guitar Pop to the Empty Bottle This Friday

Josée Caron and Lucy Niles of Partner, photo by Colin Medley Imagine a world where Weezer was two girls from Canada, and they never lost that gleam that made their early work so timeless. If you can capture that image in your head, you’d end up seeing Josée Caron and Lucy Niles of Partner, whose debut album In Search Of Lost Time was one of the best releases you probably didn’t hear about in 2017. Roaring rock choruses and stomping, fuzzed out pop hooks run throughout the album, with Caron and Niles sharing vocal duties. And there’s an honest sense of fun that lends the songs a feeling of joy. The subject matter veers towards love and comedy, something the world could use a lot more of these days. The duo was supposed to play Chicago last fall, but the venue had to cancel the show at the last minute. (I don't think Partner even knew the show was canceled until I told their publicist!) But the good news is that the band is playing The Empty Bottle this week, Friday, January 26. Opening act Anna Burch should fit in with Partner's sound quite nicely, since her new album Quit The Curse is injected with its own hefty dose of California sun rock, a la that dog, but with a hint of twang that lends a heft to the songs that weighs nicely in your head. Chicago's Dream Version, who specialize in their own little quirky brand of bent pop, also opens.
Jim Kopeny / Tankboy

Tankboy resides in the body of Jim Kopeny and lives in Mayfair with Pickle the Kitten and a beagle named Betty (RIP) who may actually be slightly more famous than most of the musicians slogging through the local scene. He's written about music for much longer than most bands you hear on the radio have even existed.
