Chicago Police Officer Under Investigation for Social Media Posts
A Chicago Police officer is under investigation over racist, potentially threatening, and otherwise inflammatory remarks on social media. Propublica Illinois learned recently that the Civilian Office of Police Accountability Officer has two investigations looking into remarks made by Officer John Catanzara. Complaints against the officer say he displayed “bigoted views” and “hostile remarks” over social media and sent “inappropriate emails” to a high school where he was stationed. Another complaint alleges that he told a woman “I have a hunch we might cross paths one day,” which she viewed as a threat. Catanzara has been named in some 46 misconduct complaints, and suspended seven times for a total of 111 days. The officer said he was unaware of the investigations and didn’t “really care either.” (Propublica)
