2017 Sets Record for TV and Films Produced in Chicago
Chicago just finished a record year for film and TV production and 2018 is looking good. The mayor's office says that 580 projects--including eight full-season TV series and parts of two others--totaled 2,404 production days. That translates to $423 million in salaries and other expenditures. The Chicago Film Office issued 2,127 permits, a 10 percent increase over 2016. TV shows renewed to film here in 2018 include FOX’s "Empire," Netflix’s "Easy" by director Joe Swanberg, and Showtime’s "The Chi," "Electric Dream" and "Shameless," back for its seventh consecutive season.
