Embrace Winter at Brookfield Zoo’s FREEze Day February 11th

Brookfield Zoo will host FREEze Days this Sunday, an event embracing winter and showing off winter activities. Photo via Brookfield Zoo. You can run, but you can't hide. No matter who or what does or doesn't see their shadow, we in Chicago know that winter isn't going anywhere soon. We're living through some of the worst of it now. But instead of complaining and hiding from it, why not try to live in harmony with it? Embrace the concept of hygge our Midwestern friends in Minnesota hold so dear, and get cozy with it. That's what Brookfield Zoo will be inviting you to do with its upcoming FREEze Day on Sunday, February 11th. As you'd suspect, the FREE in freeze day refers to free admission for all, and the event centers around snow and cold loving animals and activities involving them. There will be special zoo chats focusing on the most popular winter animals, a chat about polar bears and a talk focusing on the Mexican gray wolf and the recovery programs now in place to help revitalize the species. In the afternoon, visitors can take in a cat chat that's all about snow leopards- the most elusive cats in the world. There's fun family activities to participate in, including an appearance by the Green Valley Dog Drivers from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, where they'll give dogsledding demonstrations and answer questions about the sport, and some arts and crafts focusing on February as National Bird Feeding Month, which include building bird food sources, creating binoculars from recyclables, and painting with feathers. There'll also be representatives from Forest Preserves of Cook County on hand to introduce you to their own winter programming and activities. And of course, there will be plenty of animals to see frolicking in the snow and inhabiting the various buildings. Take some time out to enjoy the sparkling snow and visit the animals who love it too. Brookfield Zoo's FREEze Day event will occur on Sunday, February 11th, but the zoo also offers free general admission to all visitors on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays through February 28th (though parking fees still apply).
