Aging Voting Equipment Could Impact Upcoming Election
Outdated voting equipment could negatively impact the upcoming election in Illinois. Some areas in the state are using equipment that’s more than a decade old, and some election administrators have had to hunt online for replacement parts. “If the issue is not addressed on a statewide level, then some parts of the state, especially those without the proper resources to process , may have longer lines, and fewer people who vote,” said Sarah Brune, executive director for the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform. The last time Chicago purchased voting equipment was in 2005 through a federal aid program, but acquiring new equipment is difficult, as machines are purchased on a county level. (Columbia Chronicle)
