Protesters March on Mayor’s House, Demand Halt To School Closures

Hundreds of protesters marched on Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s house to demand Chicago Public Schools keep four schools it slated for closure in the South Side Englewood neighborhood. Demonstrators played drums, sang, and chanted in front of the mayor’s house and brought along a letter and list of demands to deliver to the mayor. Protesters want a meeting with the mayor this week, before his appointed school board votes on the closures on February 28th. They also want the District to keep the schools open and “transform them into fully-funded, sustainable community schools with programs and services the community wants and needs.” (Twitter)
