Illinois High School Students Join Parkland in Walkouts Against Gun Violence
Chicagoland high school students staged walkouts protesting gun violence, a movement that Florida students initiated following the shootings last week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Marches today were led by students at Oak Park and River Forest High Schools and Schaumburg High School, during which students chanted, "Kids over guns." Marches and walkouts will continue over the next two months, and the Women's March branch, Youth EMPOWER, has scheduled a #NationalSchoolWalkout for March 14 at 10am in every time zone. The walkout will last 17 minutes, representing each of the victims killed in the Parkland shooting (Chicago Tribune).
