Students, Elected Officials Across Chicago Participate In National Walkout Over Gun Violence
Students across Chicago and all of Illinois staged walkouts as part of a national protest around gun violence on Wednesday. Rallies and walkouts, along with get out the vote efforts began as early as 8:30am, and will continue throughout the afternoon. Students and Benito Juarez Academy in Pilsen walked out at 10:00am, and observed 17 minutes of silence to represent the 17 people killed in the Parkland, Florida massacre. Students of voting age at the school, along with students at Solorio Academy High School, Westinghouse College Prep, and CCA Academy also plan to participate in early voting. “We will never forget them (the Parkland students) and I think it’s important for the Attorney General of Illinois to be the strongest voice possible to take on gun violence,” said former Governor and candidate for Attorney General Pat Quinn outside Juarez.
