Chicago Gun Violence Rate Declines
Gun violence has declined in Chicago for its thirteenth consecutive month, according to the Chicago Police Department. Shootings in March of 2018 dropped by 17 percent and murders by 25 percent, compared to March of 2017. Year to date, murders dropped 22% and shootings dropped 25% compared to the same period last year. "We are making progress and certainly it's not cause for celebration," said Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. "But when you look at it you do have to acknowledge progress." The city saw a 16 percent decline in murders from 2016, from 771 murders to 650 in 2017. (CNN)
