The catchy, candy-colored single "Cellophane" Emily Blue released today will have you bopping your head. Pop in those headphones and press "play."
And then listen closer: underneath the song's candy-colored gloss lies a message about love and relationships. More accurately, Blue is singing about the disillusionment of relationships and the idea of a person in our heads after infatuation kicks in.
“Don’t you wish things were still wrapped up in Cellophane?” she sings while wearing oversized green rubber gloves in a bright yellow kitchen backed by two dancers (including one of Third Coast Review's own Mariel Fechik). In other words, find comfort in a relationship by becoming someone's possession.
In less than three-minutes, Blue creates a hypnotizing spell. With a color scheme that both contrasts and pops, Zeltron2020 (Sarah Zelman) created a video that demands your attention as much as Blue's song.
"Cellophane" will be the first song of her upcoming EP, *69. Liked her song? Get to know Emily Blue better with the interview she did with us last summer when she began creating as a solo artist.
