Sam Evian’s mantra is “this is you, forever.” He chants this on the title track of his last album, You, Forever, which indie label Saddle Creek released this summer. The record features sweeping George Harrison guitar licks over ‘70s-inspired grooves, and he pays more attention to his body and mind on it.
In fact, the New York-based artist and producer even recorded on tape, to give his eyes and mind a break from using screens all day. Evian, having moved on from indie-band Celestial Shore, interprets ‘60s and ‘70s rock music through a modern lens. He released his debut album, the golden-hued Premium, in 2016, and has since toured extensively, including with the likes of Whitney and Big Thief.

He's a masterful songwriter who deserves more attention. He pulls from his experience as a producer to chisel each detail in his songs while not forgetting the structure and message. And on You, Forever, Evian opened himself up. With his latest release, Evian reveals his strength — and growth — by showing his vulnerability.
