The Chicago Philharmonic is bringing its popular Side-by-Side program for the first time to Piotrowski Park in Little Village Saturday, October 6. On three previous occasions this year, the “Chicago Phil,” as it calls itself, has welcomed public participation in open rehearsals, followed by open performances. Held in conjunction with the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks series, Chicago Phil has brought Side-by-Side to parks on the South and West sides. These have been very popular, with over 400 musicians having registered to participate at each event.
Guest conductor Emanuele Andrizzi will be leading Saturday’s program, which includes the main theme from Star Wars by John Williams, symphonic music by Chicago composer Florence Price, and the 1812 Overture by Peter Tchaikovsky. Also to be performed is the third movement from Johannes Brahms’ 4th Symphony. The concert opens with Francis Scott Key’s Star Spangled Banner.
Any musician from the community is welcome to sit next to one of the orchestra’s professional musicians for a rehearsal from 2 to 4pm followed by a performance at 5pm. Members of the public wishing to join in on the fun need to register. For more information, click here.
