Federal Agents Search Alderman Ed Burke’s Office
Federal agents showed up to the office of Chicago alderman Ed Burke to conduct some kind of search Thursday morning. The Chicago Tribune reports that just before 11:00am, agents who were reportedly with the FBI entered the office, papered over the windows, and ordered employees to leave, according to one woman who was among those ordered out.
Several reporters tweeted photos of the glass doors, which could be seen covered with brown paper.

Alderman Burke is Chicago’s longest-serving member of City Council and Chairman of the Finance Committee. Burke was first elected in 1969, and is considered Chicago’s most powerful alderman.
Spokespersons with several federal agencies have so far either declined comment or not returned calls.
It’s currently unknown what the investigation might entail, but Burke has long come under scrutiny for potential conflicts of interest in city business. Additionally, his law firm worked for President Donald Trump for 12 years, and helped cut property taxes on Trump’s tower along the riverfront by $14 million.
