Wicker Park Farmers Market Brings the Taste of Summer Indoors

Indoor markets are helping us remember those good old days of summer. I long for fresh-baked pastries, fruits of the season, herbs and veggies. Fortunately for us city dwellers, the Wicker Park Farmers Market has moved indoors taking up residence every Saturday at Chop Shop now through April 20.  On our recent visit to this market, my cohort in food discovery, Nancy Bishop, and I were greeted by a number of vendors with lots of goodies. From mouthwatering doughnuts courtesy of Beacon Doughnuts to fresh salsas from Tomato Mountain to Avrom Farm produce to desserts from Velvet Dessert, we were happily browsing and sampling. The market offers a variety so if you’re more interested in beverages, lunch or even skin care, you’ll find something you like. I left the market with a jug of Windmill Ginger Brew, a bag of watermelon radishes and a blend of spices from LFK. Of course, I could have filled my bags with other items like honey, holiday wreaths, and blueberry preserves. Or tasty hummus, falafel and freshly baked pita from LaShuk Street Food. The Wicker Park Farmers Market, 2033 W. North Ave., opens at 10am and runs until 3pm.* It is presented by the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Compass Mortgage and Healthy Soil Compost, with additional support from WPB SSA #33. The market accepts Link/SNAP cards. If you prefer to stay closer to the lake, visit Green City Market at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 Cannon Dr. It is open on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm* through April. *Be sure to check market websites during the season for holidays or early closures.
