THURSDAY, MARCH 14th Freshman: A Show About Your Terrible Early Art @ Transistor, 5224 N. Clark Street, 7:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Relive the terror of your earliest works by looking at someone's else's early writing SO WHAT: Everyone has an insufferable piece of writing or first attempt at performance art hiding in an attic somewhere. Hosted by Annie Russell, Freshman will welcome some of the best comics in Chicago to share their early work at this not-to-be-missed night of comedy. Diaries, letters, artwork, songs, it’s all fair game tonight. Featured writer and performers include Andy Fleming, Stephanie Weber, Rima Parikh, Kyle Parks, Jamie Shriner Biddle, and more! NOW WHAT: The evening is free and BYOB, plus 10% discount on any store purchase. FRIDAY, MARCH 15th Vinyl Me, Please: The Spins feat. De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising @ Sleeping Village, 3734 W Belmont Ave, 6:00pm - 9:00pm 21+ WHAT: A night of vinyl goodness SO WHAT:  Vinyl Me, Please is taking over Sleeping Village for their monthly The Spins event, this time featuring VMP’s March 2019 Record of the Month: De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising! It’ll be a night of great music, meeting the local vinyl-loving community, and plenty of  drinks. You could even win a copy just by showing up and hanging out! NOW WHAT: The vinyl friendly event is free, so go out and have a great time! 3rd Annual Lovecraft Death Day Soirée @ Bucket o’ Blood Records, 3182 N Elston Ave,5:00pm - 10:00pm, WHAT: The 3rd annual Lovecraft Death Day Soiree - an evening celebrating the master of Eldritch terror - Howard Philips Lovecraft SO WHAT: Dress to impress and raise your glasses to honor the 82nd anniversary of his passing into the realm of the elder gods.This wonderful evening will feature elixirs and nourishment from B'el Bar + Kitchen and a unique literary salon that will transport guests into the early 1930's for an exceptional evening of ghastly tales and wondrous words in honor of the esteemed H.P. SO WHAT: Jumbo Mumbo is a group art show at the Co-Prosperity Sphere that aims to find things that are bigger than they should be; or anything confusing, nonsensical, or hard to decipher. Curated by Drew Ryan and Reuben Kincaid, the show runs through March 29th and this opening night event will feature, video projection by Jillian Musielak, sound installation by Todd Irwin, and music performance by SPVD! Girl K (Album Release) / Fran / Engine Summer @ Schubas, 3159 N Southport Ave, 9:00pm, 18+ WHAT: Some of the best local tunes you could ever hope for SO WHAT: The always amazing Girl K, the musical powerhouse that is Kathy Patino, will be bringin her gorgeous voice to the schubas stage for her album release show! SATURDAY & SUNDAY, MARCH 16th & 17th   Women’s Comics Month 2019 @ Challengers Comics + Conversation, 1845 N Western Ave, 11:00am - 5:00pm, All Ages WHAT: A month long celebration of women in comics! SO WHAT:  Women’s Comics Month Returns to Challengers as they celebrate Women and Non-Binary creators for the entire month of March. Every Saturday and Sunday will feature 2 creators stopping by an sharing their work and tlking shop with those interested in creating comics of their own! SATURDAY, MARCH 16th Thalia Hall Architectural Tour @ Thalia Hall, , 11:00am WHAT: A little bit of brunch and architecture SO WHAT: Need something a little different for your brunch? Thalia Hall has brought back their architectural tours during brunch every third Saturday of the month! Fill up on some Michelin starred food before or after you embark on their 11am tour of the building rich architectural history. SUNDAY, MARCH 17th The Ninth Annual Chili-Synth Cook Off @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, 8:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Chili by way of synths SO WHAT: It took a while before Empty Bottle realized just how well synthesizers and chili went together, but since 2011’s inaugural Synthesizer Chili Cook Off, the pair have been a mainstay of aural/oral excellence. Each musician prepares a synth-based “sonic interpretation” of the chili they make and the audience decides whose pairing is most accurate (with the winner then being allowed to return for next year’s cook off). This year the contenders include Whitney Johnson (Defending Champ), Nick Cointea, Alexei Khokhlov, and Alex Beam! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $5 dollars for this unique and irresistible pairing!
