It's the final weekend of March! Start scheduling your days off and make the most of them with some great events including some wonderful concerts, movies, discussions, and some delicious coffee and beer. Let's get on with your curated weekend! ALL WEEKEND LONG, MARCH 28th - 30th Uppers & Downers 2019 @ Various Locations, Various times, 21+ WHAT: Coffee. Beer. Coffee beer. SO WHAT: Uppers & Downers is a collaboration between Good Beer Hunting and Stephen Morrissey (now brand strategy director of the SCA) that celebrates the delicious melding of coffee and beer. The main event on Saturday will feature more than 20 experimental coffee/beer collaborations of all styles, and over a dozen roasters serving single-origin espressos, coffee cocktails, cold brews, coffee-and-beer-inspired snacks, and more. If you want priority for the rest of the week’s festivities, tickets are $100 and include the Saturday session of your choice! Impromptu Fest 2019 @ Guarneri Hall, 11 E. Adams St., Suite 350A, Thursday – Saturday 7:30pm, Sunday 3:00pm, All Ages WHAT: The first weekend of this excellent festival! SO WHAT: Following the success of last year’s inaugural festival, the second Impromptu Fest will take place the next two weekends in the brand-new Guarneri Hall in downtown Chicago. Hosted by New Music Chicago, Impromptu Fest will showcase Chicago’s rich and vibrant contemporary art music scene with eight concerts featuring 16 Chicago ensembles performing new music by 22 Chicago composers. THURSDAY, MARCH 28th Drinks and More: Rogers Park Business Alliance Celebration @ Piper Hall Mansion, 970 W. Sheridan Rd., 6:00pm - 9:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Sneak Peek, an all-inclusive celebration and benefit for the nonprofit Rogers Park Business Alliance, an organization that strengthens business and builds community in Chicago’s diverse Rogers Park neighborhood. Enjoy tastings, beer, live music and even psychic readings in Piper Hall Mansion. SO WHAT: Promises to be a fun evening with all proceeds going to the Rogers Park Business Alliance. Experience the latest happening spots in Rogers Park. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $75 each or $125 for two. The Beach Bum - Presented in Odorama @ Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave., 7:00pm WHAT: Harmony Korine's latest shown in the most accurate and necessary (and legal) way possible. SO WHAT: The Beach Bum follows the outrageous misadventures of Moondog (Matthew McConaughey), a rebellious burnout who lives life by his own rules. The film also stars Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffett, and Martin Lawrence. Seriously, this movie sounds insane. To add to all of that, Music Box will be releasing the cannabis infused 'Moon Fog" into the theater at specific times during the film. "The Moon Fog" terpines, created by the Humboldt Seed Company, contains the essential oils of real cannabis without any of the intoxicating cannabinoids. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $11. Old 97's with Joshua Ray Walker @ Thalia Hall, 1807 S Allport St,, 7:00pm, 17+ WHAT: Some unique takes on rock and roll SO WHAT: Rhett Miller’s Old 97’s are the height of rootsy, country-influenced songwriting that is perfectly melded with punk rock energy. The four core members including guitarist Ken Bethea, bassist Murry Hammond, and drummer Philip Peeples are making rock music at it’s most refined and fun. Joining them will be Joshua Ray Walker! NOW WHAT: Tickets for this show are $25 FRIDAY, MARCH 29th Homeshake & Yves Jarvis @ Metro, 3730 N Clark St, 7:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Soulful tunes to make you evening better SO WHAT: Homeshake is the musical pseudonym Peter sagar. Sagar's sound has experience an evolution from his guitar-forward indie-pop to an overwhelming addictive lo-fi R&B. His latest album, Helium, Sagar pushing the lo-fi R&B tones even further. Recording the album in his apartment, Helium invites experimentation and intimacy, creating even more lush aural textures to whisk you away. Joining Homeshake will be the equally beautiful voice and sound of Yves Jarvis. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $17 for this great Metro Show! Bill MacKay Release Show w/Forest Management, Miranda Winters, & Mariapaz Camargo @ The Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave., 9:00pm, 21+ WHAT: A special release show with some great local acts SO WHAT: Bill MacKay will be celebrating the release of his latest album, Fountain Fire, at what is sincerely one of our favorite venues in the city, The Hideout. Stop by and check out MacKay’s new collection hallucinogenic folk songs along with opening sets from Forest Management and Miranda Winters! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $10 for this great show! SATURDAY & SUNDAY, MARCH 30th & 31st Randolph Street Market: Spring Fling @ Chicago Antique Market, 1341 W Randolph St, 10:00am - 5:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Randolph Street Market Chicago returns for the start of Spring! SO WHAT: Celebrate the Spring Fling edition of this fun market where you can experience over 125 vendors with a wide variety of items perfect for the new season! There will also be a market bar for a bloody mary, beer, wine or champagne and local eateries while browsing vendors on three floors! SO WHAT:  Women’s Comics Month Returns to Challengers as they celebrate Women and Non-Binary creators for the entire month of March. Every Saturday and Sunday will feature 2 creators stopping by and their work and talking shop with those interested in creating comics of their own! Touring in support of her latest album, On the Line, Lewis will be stopping by Riviera Theater for what’s sure to be a great show! Joining her will be local legend Serengeti, David Cohn’s primary hip hop pseudonym who will be bringing his unique flow! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $35 for this fantastic show!
