Playtime Radio: Talk About Youth Violence, Art Festivals, Classical Music, Pomona Redux
Third Coast Review is collaborating with Playtime with Bill Turck and Kerri Kendall. We appear on their Sunday afternoon arts radio show once or twice a month. They’re on WCGO, 1590AM and 95.9FM, each Sunday from 1 to 3pm and streaming on Facebook. From now on, you’ll be able to listen to each week’s Playtime right here on our site.
Here’s host Bill Turck’s description of what you’ll hear on Playtime’s latest edition.
Hour One. In a powerful first hour, we describe what's trending over at Third Coast Review in books, stage, food and culture in and around Chicagoland. Amy Amdur from AmdurProductions.com gives us the latest on fall art festivals. From PatrickLivesOn.org, Patricia Frontain, script supervisor for the TV show Chicago PD, joins a conversation with D. Cooke and ChiCity Cypher for our continuing conversation on youth violence in Chicago and the arts. Plus magician Al James is on the southwest side at Il Vicinato Ristorante to sample their Italian cuisine.
Hour Two. Nancy Bishop, editor of Third Coast Review, joins us in the 2nd hour, along with Third Coast Review's classical music editor, Louis Harris. Stage critic Nancy talks about a scandal rocking the world of opera over body shaming by a theater critic; she says critical comments on performers' looks or physical characteristics are never acceptable. Louis talks about some new releases from Chicago classical label Cedille Records. We also break down the play Pomona, a disturbing futuristic play running currently at Steep Theatre in Chicago. From PureEsperanza.com, which focuses on empowering consciousness and the art of well-being, Esperanza Smith joins us. And finally, Megan Williamson with an amazing art discovery up in, of all places, Ripon, Wisconsin.
