THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10th Lucy Dacus / Liza Anne / Sun June @ Park West, 322 W Armitage Ave, 6:30pm, All ages WHAT: A special Thursday night at Park West SO WHAT: Lucy Dacus is truly special. Her music has an incredible sense of the world around her, forging connections with her listeners with beautiful lyricism and melodies. On stage, Dacus is something to behold. Her stage presence is grand and mesmerizing leading her performances to stand out no matter if she's the headliner or a supporting act. FRIDAY - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11th - 13th The Thing @ Logan Theatre, 2646 N Milwaukee Ave, 10:30pm, WHAT: One of John Carpenter’s greatest film on the big screen SO WHAT: It’s hard to top the tension of John Carpenter’s The Thing. Set in a research post in Antartica, The Thing follows a research team as they come in contact with a shape shifting alien set to devour them and the world if it escapes the frozen tundra. It’s a fun ride and even better on the big screen! NOW WHAT: Tickets are $10 for this great night FRIDAY & SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11th & 12th The Evil Dead @ Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave, Midnight WHAT: An excellent horror movie for your late night frights SO WHAT: The Evil Dead has risen from cult classic to just a classic. Sam Raimi’s low budget horror about a few pals on fun getaway to a cabin in the woods gone wrong encapsulates so much of what makes the genre entertaining to watch: gruesomeness gore, shocking scares, and a little camp to make everything fit together. This 4K restoration of the film will be exceptional at the Music Box Theatre and a must see this Halloween season. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $9 SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12th Handmade Market Chicago @ Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, Noon - 4:00pm WHAT: Shopping, eating, and drinking all in one place SO WHAT: Grab some food next door at Bite Cafe, maybe a drink from the Empty Bottle Bar, and start shopping the Handmade Market Chicago! They will be bringing over 30 makers of beautiful and unique items to the Empty Bottle! Join in and see what all the sellers will have to offer. NOW WHAT: This event as always is free! 20×2: Is it possible? @ Schubas, 3159 N Southport Ave, 6:30pm, 21+ WHAT: 20×2 Chicago is an event where 20 people from all different walks of creative life — writers, musicians, filmmakers, web geeks and other bon vivants — are asked the same question and given two minutes each to answer in whichever way they choose. SO WHAT: The results may take any form, from spoken word to music to film, and can be as varied as the emotions and reactions they evoke. This edition’s question is “Is it possible?” The show is hosted by Andrew Huff, former editor and publisher of Gapers Block, and you can see the impressive list of speakers at the 20×2 website. NOW WHAT: Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door, and the show is 21+ SATURDAY & SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12th & 13th Luna @ Lincoln Hall, 2424 N Lincoln Ave, 7:00pm, 21+ WHAT: Two great albums being played in their entirety SO WHAT: Luna came to be after Dean Wareham’s departure from Galaxie 500 and allowed his ever brilliant voice to continue. Filled with a fragility and a sincere beauty, Luna satiated fans of Wareham’s previous band.  When Luna broke up in 2005, they left a hole in the indie rock world. Ten years later, the band got back together after an off the cuff suggestion by Britta Phillips that they would be returning. They embarked an a grand tour, stopping by Chicago a few times the past couple of years. Now you get another chance to see this wonderful band, this time around playing Bewitched on Saturday and Penthouse on Sunday. This Luna lineup is made up of Dean Wareham and Sean Eden on guitar, Lee Wall on drums, and Britta Phillips on bass. They will be joined by Lab Partners on Saturday and Cafe Racer on Sunday! NOW WHAT: Go to Lincoln Hall and bask in the musical light of Luna. Tickets are $30 SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13th 5th Annual Blocktoberfest @ Dusek's / Thalia Hall, 1227 W 18th St, 2:00pm - 11:00pm, All Ages WHAT: Dusek’s takes the annual block party inside to Thalia Hall! SO WHAT: Dusek’s 5th Annual Blocktoberfest is a celebration of the restaurant’s anniversary as well as the community that surrounds it. The day is filled with beer from Ballast Point: Chicago, STOLEN Spirits drinks, Topo Chico USA for non-drinkers. and more.
