Valentine's Day this year was a little more special as Phantogram made their way to Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom to warm up the city. With a big smattering of flurries and dropping tempts outside, the duo of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter took over the iconic venue to warm up the night with a fantastic set list of incredible songs.
Phantogram has nearly two decades under their belt and have been evolving with every passing release. Their early works lean closer to their more trip hop sensibilities, but their inherent pop catchiness as been coming out more and more. Their latest album Memory of a Day see the pair expanding their sound even further, creating some of their trippiest and most epic sounding songs. Set opener "Jealousy" really set the stage for the night's energetic set. It's driving synth rhythms and engulfing vibe made for the perfect start of the night.
While the night definitely focused on Memory of a Day, favorites like "Don't Move" and "Mouthful of Diamonds" were welcomed with lovingly open arms. Of course Phantogram saved some of their best for last as the evening's encore of "You Don't Get Me High Anymore" and "When I'm Small", leaving the Valentine's Day crowd with a some bittersweet anmd darker tracks that they could help but love.
