Kevin Morby has long been the Midwest's grandest bard, mixing so much of what makes the region unique deep into his music. Elements of the bible belt, modern secular life, and the general sense of that beautiful Midwestern life are embedded into his folk-infused rock albums that are consistently some of the best of the year. Last week Morby returned to Chicago, this time to the Metro for a tour stop supporting his latest release, Little Wide Open.
We've had the opportunity to see Morby plenty over the years: during his established songwriter status after City Music. the Oh My God tour where his sound was breaking through yet another echelon in his career again, for a Fall Mixer in his Sundowner era, and even a surprise appearance at a show or two. Morby is no stranger to Chicago and every time he sets foot on one of the city's stages it feels like a hometown gig.
Morby's return to Chicago was centered on Little Wide Open and This Is a Photograph with the majority of the setlist highlighting these two albums. Take a look at Wendy Davis' photos of Kevin Morby's Metro stop below and go listen to Little Wide Open on your favorite streaming platform. You can check out Kevin Morby and crew on the remainder of their US tour this month!
